For over two decades, Matthew (our senior Vic PM) has continued to hone his craft in the electrical industry, dedicating his career to providing exceptional service and expertise to everyone he works with. Today we learn a little more more about our humble and media shy VIC leader.
By starting his career as a domestic apprentice sparky, Matthew believes he got one of the best groundings of the trade. It provided him with the strong foundations for dealing with customers, getting the work done quickly and effectively right the first time, and focusing on training apprentices right.
A skill Matt has continued to focus on having worked with or supervised over 1 100 apprentices, in his 21 years………...”most of them still talk to me” he says.
With a desire to grow his career, Matthew transitioned to the commercial sector soon after completing his apprenticeship. Through hard work and dedication, Matthew rapidly learned the ropes of the commercial industry, continuing to learn and hone his skills, which he states he continues to do even today.
If Matthew could provide any words of wisdom to his younger self, they would be:
Matthew has faced his fair share of obstacles on the way. His biggest challenge is learning to work with different people from industry profiles and trying to see common ground. However, through consistent learning, training and development, he was able to overcome these obstacles in the industry and learnt to deal with variety of personality and communication styles.
From the development of smart homes and renewable energy sources to advancements in electrical vehicles, Matthew has seen rapid evolution. OHS also has come a long way, regulations have become more stringent, leading to the introduction of new safety technologies and procedures just within the last 10 years. The greatest change and advancement is obviously battery tools – they’ve made the job so much easier.
Today, He is a highly respected Project Manager and an electrician with a reputation for providing top quality service to our customers. He is passionate about mentoring and sharing his knowledge with young electricians who are just starting out in the industry.
